_ Unearth – The Glasshouse Pomona, CA 12/11

By Jeffrey Easton

Unearth has made 2011 theirs by releasing their best album of their career in the form of Darkness In The Light and executing some of the best live performances in recent memory supporting said record.  That being said they wasted no time in letting the rabid fan base that lit up the floor of the Glasshouse that they were there to mean business and they were going shove Darkness down your throat.  Watch It Burn opened the set and it was utter chaos, the mayhem that was the pit was unreal, this was brain rattling to say the least. Blasting from the new record was Eyes Of Black and Shadows In The Light, both intense blasts of metal that only Unearth can deliver.  The older shit cannot and was not forgotten and with biting tracks like The Great Dividers, Endless and This Lying World from the Oncoming Storm and This Glorious Nightmare and Giles from In The Eyes Of Fire the set was blistering to say the least.  Trevor is the ultimate metal front man, menacing, loud and connects with the crowd. Buzz and ken are the best guitarists going these days, they play a dark menacing form of metal but their skills are beyond amazing. John is a phenomenal bass player and connected with new drummer Nick Pierce to make the songs breath fire from the bottom end. Unearth have been churning out records for a decade now  with the intensity only getting stronger and the live set continues to burn hotter, a band not to be missed..
