Theory Of A Deadman – Dinosaur - Roadrunner

By Jeffrey Easton

Longevity in todays rock scene is hard to come by, bands come and go, its hard to sell records and tour but not for Theory Of A Deadman. For over two decades They have dropped massively successful albums and continue to play for thousands of people every night and that’s where we are now.  Its 2023 and they have dropped one of their best albums to date in the form of Dinosaur.   Over the past several albums we have seen the diversity of Tyler Connolly and the bands writing abilities and that comes to fruition here as I feel that Dinosaur is their truest form yet.  Opening with the title track, they come out swinging hard with a menacing riff and an apocalyptic message disguised as lyrics.  Sometimes humanity slips into stupidity and this track is merely pointing that out.  Slumping a bit deeper into why we are this way is another stand out in the form of Sick.  Sick Deftly points out where our lesser civilization is heading towards, a self-absorbed monstrosity that’s intolerable, if feel these lyrics.     One of the tracks that hits hard for me is Two Of Us, their mash up of the Bill Withers track with their lyrics to create a devastating dig at how bad your ex can be.  To me, this is the stand out track and a testament to how great they are at creating an atmosphere to where you feel what Tyler felt.  The diversity of the album is felt in the soon to be top-down summer hit classics Head In The Clouds and Hearts To Wild.  These two tracks show how far the writing continues to evolve from the early 2000s pack that they spawned from to their own band.  Airy but still Theory and hits at the right moments. Dinosaur in the rock world means has been, done, but in this case it stands for a solid hard hitting rock album that’s going to dominate your life.
