Hurricane – Reconnected - Deko
By Jeffrey Easton
By Now you should know the history of the sunset strip, having been bombarded with all of the biopics on the rise and fall of the glam/hard rock scene. One of the stand out bands from that era that actually released several records, singles, toured and charted, were Hurricane. Starting their career on Greenworld and jumping to Enigma, they took on MTV and radio with I’m On to You, a highly charting single that should have made them superstars of the scene. But that’s history, here we are in 2023 and the band is reloaded with original members Robert Sarzo and Tony Cavazo that round out with new drummer Mike Hansen and the brilliant pipes of Dan Schumann, you have the makings of a comeback. The record is called Reconnected and considering the impact of the material, they are doing just that, reconnecting back to the music scene. The first single and opening track, Rockstar Cheater, is what this band is about, the cracking beat, fast guitars and an insane solo. Honestly, you are back at that party hearing Hurricane for the first time. This record pulses with different depths, the opening party of Rockstar Cheater to the darkness of my fav track, Behind Your Shadow, the ultimate don’t push your luck with love. They revisit I’m On To You and put a 2023 polish on it that could honestly go right back to radio. Musicianship flows heavily on this record and flows deeply on Wishing Well, another standout that should earn praise from fans. This acoustic based, somber look shows another side of Hurricane you did not know was there. Traveling through this album, I can see why they picked Dan to front Hurricane, his vocals have such range and fits so well with the material. I feel he reaches his potential with Disconnected, a dirty, in the gutter piece of metal that will find you cranking it louder and the other side of the spectrum with the top 40ish Innocent Girl . His vocals hit a razor sharp glean that you do not recover from. Is Hurricane here to stay? I hope so as they have released an album that you will not turn off.
