Too Close To Touch – The Palladium, Worcester, MA 3/17
By Rickelle Tavares
Very rarely do I ever find myself showing up to the palladium after doors open and still waiting 30min in line. The venue was at max capacity, it was already humid in there by the time I stepped through the door, the floor and balcony were packed. I'd never seen the upstairs to the palladium fill so quickly right at the beginning of a show, as packed as it was I was really excited to see TCTT. This was my 3rd time seeing To Close To Touch, they'd recently come to Worcester on the Crown The Empire tour and they killed it that night, needless to say I was stoked to see them again. They have been picking up so much momentum in the music scene, after the release of “Haven't Been Myself” people have gone crazy for them. Their fan base has skyrocketed and they deserve every bit of recognition they've gotten, I remember their first tour that hit Worcester. They opened for Secrets, they said hi and thank you to every single person that would listen, they were so warm and friendly to everyone and that really stuck with me. Now on to the show, the room was very tense just awaiting the moment they'd take the stage. Out they all came one by one, there was a blaring uproar of all their fans screaming for them, they opened with “Sympathy” off their newest album. The first thing I noticed was how in tune to the music front man Keaton was, most of the time his eyes were shut and he was singing in perfect sync to the song in comparison to the album. They're so different from most bands, everything about them is unique but true to themselves as artists. There was no photo pit for this show so I was in the crowd for the whole set, everyone was practically climbing over each other to be as close to the stage as possible.the the first few cords of “Hell To Pay” started to play and things just went insane. People weren't even crowd surfing, they were screaming the lyrics to the song and just feeling the immense emotions of the lyrics. That's another really great thing about Too Close To Touch, they bare their emotions and wrote really raw songs that are relatable to anyone going through any situation. You could see the emotion swelling up inside people all around as they sang, and that was incredible. By the time they got to “Pretty Little Things” the venue was HOT, everyone was still jumping and moving around but with even more energy, and almost all the people that were on the balcony came down just to get wild with the crowd. Everyone in the band was really being extremely interactive with each other and the audience, they all had on huge smiles and would cheer the people who were stage diving. Now very rarely does there come a song that will bring a tear to my eye let alone out in public but that night I wasn't the only one who was feeling that. Keaton wrote a song called Eiley about his younger sister that had passed, it's completely full of the emotion you'd expect from such a heartbreaking situation. Needless to say, while this song was playing you really couldn't help but see the pain in Keaton's face as he preformed it, it was beautiful and sad and it struck a cord in your heart. It was such an incredible way to send us off for the night, everyone was singing as loud as they could and I did catch a few people crying. It was such an enlightening set to watch, from beginning to end they did an amazing job and I really look forward to the next time I get to see them play.
