Tom Keifer – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 9/15
By Jeffrey Easton
Tom Keifer is a survivor and one of the few artists that came out of the 80’s that can claim to be a relevant musician in 2015. After dropping his debut solo album The Way Life Goes touring was on the agenda and that finally came to reality. Tom on his own for the first time away from Cinderella was a success and his band was as tight as Cinderella ever was. The Way Life Goes is an amazing piece of work and considering Tom had not dropped new material in quite a while, almost 20 years to be exact, it seems as if Tom never missed a step with his writing. With amazing stand outs like The Flower Song, Cold Day in Hell and Solid Ground it seems as if Tom found another peak in his mountain range of song writing. So that brings us to Tom and his band in Sacramento. The place was packed with Keifer diehards waiting to see what the maestro would be bringing to the stage for them to sing along to and by the volume of the fanbase in the club there was zero disappointment. Mixing solo material with the Cinderella classics made the night memorable to show how seamless Tom was with how he writes the solo material as compared to the classic Cinder stuff, just a pure writer. The show opened to screams from the fans and Fallin’ Apart At The Seams, a classic piece of Cinderella that primed the fans to a boiling point. The solo album made its debut tonight with It’s Not Enough as well as Different Light and the fans were into it, singing every word and giving the emotion back. As said tonight was a good mix of Cinderella and solo and he brought out the big guns for the past by shelling Save Me and Shake Me back to back to the savage pleasure of his fans. Then of course Heartbreak Station dropped and the place lit up. One of the more amazing Cinder pieces and delivered by Tom and his band with full emotion. Tom dedicated The Flower Song for his wife and it was a pleasant dedication as The Flower Song is one of the stand outs on The Way Life Goes and should have been a massive hit if the radio market was in its right mind. I think the loudest part of the night was for the next two tracks, Don’t Know What You Got and Nobody’s Fool. I still remember hearing Nobody’s Fool for the first time and I was floored and I still am to this day with the power of this track and Tom’s fans let him know how they still felt about that massive hit. The solo album had more gas in it as he dealt Solid Ground and Cold Day In Hell to the hot crowd and received such great adulation for the new material. Closing out this amazing night of RnR were the shear Cinder classics Coming Home, Shelter Me and Gypsy Road, all memorable in their own right and deserve a place in rock n roll history. Cinderella and Tom Keifer should get a lot more credit than they do for what they did for rock and what Tom still does for the scene. The Way Life Goes is a great album and Tom should consider it to be a monumental feather in his hat.
