The Used/William Control – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 10/13
By Jeffrey Easton
One of the coolest most off the wall rock bands, The Used, invaded Sacramento again bringing their aural assault with them to slay the masses. Whenever they roll through its always packed and all of that energy is just taken in by The Used and spat back out over the freaks. Coming with The Used was Aiden frontman and solo performer William Control, a freak in his own right. This is my second time witnessing him live and to me he is a pure showman and an incredible singer. Once William Control hit the stage, Ace Of Spades turned into a blazing dance club of hard hitting beats and William’s sinister gothic delivery. His solo career has been short but very prolific with massive titles like Hate Culture and Silentium Amoris along with a string of EP’s as well and The Neuromancer on its way. He blistered the crowd with Kiss Me Judas, I’m Only Human Sometimes, New World Order as well as Disconnecting. His live style dominates and he is constantly in the fans faces, he will be dominating for years. The Used are always a force to be dealt with and tonight was no different as they came to the stage with their new Ep, The Ocean Of The Sky, and rampaged through that and their massive catalog. The Used have a loyal “won’t go away” following and to attest to that was another packed crowd for them that sang along to each word. Every song on the setlist was another excuse for the fans to sing, not missing a beat and taking in every moment of the show. They know their fans well and they give them exactly what they want by litering their set with The Bird And The Worm, Put Me Out, I Caught Fire, Take It Away, the hook filled The Taste Of Ink, Now That Your Dead as well as the new track Iddy Biddy. Bert McCracken, the singer that’s never short of anything to say, kept me entertained between tracks by spouting his wisdom and your right, we do need friends for unprotected sex, right? By the end of this tour they will go back and finish their next record and come around and abuse us all over again and I will be waiting for them.
