Taking Back Sunday – Happiness Is – Hopeless
By Jeffrey Easton
Rock bands come and go, members come and go but the solid music always stahds the test of time and that sums up where taking Back Sunday is at. After surviving for years without their original line up they finally put the pieces back together, toured, and created and here we are with possibly the best album of their careers in the form of Happiness Is. This album rises and falls in waves of emotions that crash over you with the full force of blunt lyrics and soaring guitars. Love and relationships have never been put more in focus before than on this record as this album is a solid testament to how love can flare and fade. Flicker, Fade opens the record and shows you immediately that a bright light can be extinguished in a heartbeat through an emotion laced track that keeps building and never let go. Beat Up Car shows the other side, a young love that does nothing but wants to take you and get away with a massive beat and full throttle rhythms that push you over the edge as the song rolls through your head. All The Way runs the same course and to me serves as the best song that TBS has ever created and Adam delivers the emotion that is needed to drag even the most hardened fan into his world. The album is complete with the rollicking Stood A Chance, the desperation of Better Homes And Gardens and looking back with We Were Younger Then. Taking Back Sunday have indeed delivered what should be the album of the year in most circles and if you have yet to place your ears on this masterstroke you are seriously missing out.
