Spiders & Snakes – Year Of The Snake – Sansei

By Jeffrey Easton

Why? Honestly I could stop there with this review but most people want more than a one word review so I will give a few more. Spiders & Snakes is a glam band that formed out of the ashes of London in the late 80’s and they went nowhere fast and here we are 25 years later.   I saw Spiders & Snakes about a decade ago in Hollywood and there were 2 people there, including the bartender, which should about sum up where I am going. If nobody cared then they sure as hell aren’t going to care now and considering the outcome of the album I can put an exclamation mark on that. There is a reason glam in the 70’s and 80’s died out, it became clichéd, repetitive, and tired. There was nothing new and nowhere to go and that basically describes this album.  This band has pumped out some of the most clichéd material I have heard in a long time and in one listen you will understand my point. There is nothing original here, nothing I can point to and say that this was a good song, nothing.  The only tolerable song is the cover Ain’t Gonna Eat Out My Heart Any More, which was made famous by Angel in the 70’s.  But then if I want to listen to that I have the Angel catalog so I am good.  Some of the song titles include Hey You, Neutron Baby, Hello, Crazy and Driving Me Crazy, that’s some originality there.  If boring does it for you, then this is the album for you..
