Sparrows – Dragging Hell – New Damage
By Jeffrey Easton
What is the normal human reaction when you hear a wall of noise that’s just begging for you to listen to it? Do you go where fate is tempting you, like going over to the dark side of the force? That’s what Sparrows has done to me with their EP release Dragging Hell. Dragging Hell is a four track emotional roller coaster that takes you through the bands deep emotions as they plead for you to listen to them. Sounding like they came out of the early 2000’s post hardcore movement that took over Warped, they open up the disc with their strongest piece of communication to date in References To The Dead. If this doesn’t move you emotionally as the vocals plead around the angst ridden guitars, you are a dead fucking human. The stark emotions only run deeper as they slip into Our Father Our Failure as Dan Thomson, frontman of frontmen, takes you into his world with just his voice alone. Their themes are dark but you the listener need to visit their world, go into their songs with them and feel what they are feeling and get your own meaning. Hit The Kill Switch And Silence The Storm finds them at their most melodic but yet still so chaotic, finding another level to go to to bring into their world. Its Always Sunny In Bramalea finds the band closing the EP in a more soothing manner vocally but not one note less powerful than when it opened. The walls of guitars break hard up against the words and you have to take notice. This is a Must Have album for 2015 and if this is not spinning between your ears you are seriously missing out.
