Sick Puppies, Adelita's Way, Framing Hanley - Northern Lights - Clifton Park, NY 3/11
By Mary Richardson
Northern Lights never seems to have a slow night. Even though it was a "school" night (Weds.) the club was packed. Considering the line up I'm not really surprised. It was a feast for the ears and eyes. For the ladies there was Shimon, Rick, Kenneth. Guys had the likes of Emma and Julia. Did I mention there was a music too?
Me Talk Pretty hailing from NYC was up first. Julie Preotu and her boys showcased songs from their debut album "We Are Strangers" with "Wake Up, Wake Up" and "Broken Hearted" and they rocked the house well.
Framing Hanley took the stage after some technical difficulties. Once all the bugs had been worked out the rocking commenced with "Stupid Girl”, “Count Me In", and "Can You Hear Me". Although the entire band looked like they needed to have their id's checked they worked the N.L. crowd like pro's.
Third on the bill was Las Vegas based Adelita's Way. From the minute the band walked on stage there were shouts of "you're sexy", "marry me", and the occasional wolf whistle for lead singer Rick DeJesus and crew. "Invincible" and "Dirty Little Thing" from their s/t album mixed well with new songs like "Sick" from the new album. "Home Schooled Valedictorian" comes out in June check it out!
Sick Puppies closed out the show in commanding fashion. They treated the crowd to a little of everything. From rocking out hits like "You're Going Down", "Odd One", "My World" to an acoustic request set. Lead singer / guitarist Shimon Moore, bassist Emma Anzai, and drummer Mark Goodwin are always a treat to watch. Each works their own corner of the stage fluently. While Shimon is connecting with the crowd, Emma seems to pour herself into the guitar. In back is Mark making sure the entire venue is picking up what he's laying down. Check out the amazingly great new album "Polar Opposite" in stores now.
