Rock tours come and go but when you have the legends coming out that builds anticipation.   The Scorpions have unleashed an amazing record with Sting In The Tail and have now put on a tour to back that record. They landed in Ontario at the Citizens Business Bank Arena and made the crowd believers in Arena Rock. 

Cinderella was opening this leg of the tour and it was like time had stood still for the former glam rock kings. It has been 24 years (yes, 24) since Night Songs debuted and nothing but ages have changed for Cinderella.  They delivered their material to the audience’s delight as they ripped through Night Songs, Nobody’s Fool, Heartbreak Station, Gypsy Road, Push Push and Shake Me amongst others.  The only drawback is they have not had a new album since Still Climbing so there was nothing new to give to the crowd. 

The Scorpions were up next and do not let their ages fool you, these guys delivered as if they were still 22 and not 62.  Rudolf abounded around the stage as if he was a kid let loose in the candy store and Klaus’ voice has not lost a single bit of energy.  The setlist was as solid as I hoped for with cuts like Blackout, Bad Boys Running Wild, The Zoo, Coast To Coast and Loving You Sunday Morning as well as the great new stuff in The Best Is Yet To Come and Raised On Rock.  Sting In The Tail was also represented by the show opener of the same name which got the crowd into a frenzy.  Rock fans still get off on a great show and it was given to them in spades by The Scorpions.  

Sting In The Tail was a return to the classic Scorpions sound and this tour was a return to the big arena show and that was compounded by James Kottak’s incredible drum solo and accompanying movie.   I left the arena satisfied with what I saw and I am sure that the rest of the crowd did as well.  The Scorpions only have a short while before they put the stinger away and they are making every minute count.
