Saga – Spin It Again! Live In Munich – E.A.R Music

By Jeffrey Easton

Prog pioneers Saga are back on the live scene once again with their masterpiece 20/20 in tow and they have documented that massive run with Spin It Again! Live In Munich.  Their forum is the live show, as that is where their songs truly take shape and become the power houses their fans know.  This marked the return of Michael Sadler after health issues forced him out and you could tell the fans were really behind this performance.  The show kicked off with the insanely heavy track from 20/20 and the fans were all in. The band was warming up, in fact they were catching fire as they plowed through The Perfectionist, You’re Not Alone, The Flyer as well as their signature song, On The Loose.  Ian Crichton’s riffs were as masterful as ever and intertwining with Jim’s illustrious keyboard lines made the songs even more of a needful thing. As stated, this was Michael’s return to the band and he was in the best shape of his career, belting out the lyrics as if his life depended on it and taking the material to the next level. Chapter 2 and 6 found their way into the set as well as the staggering Scratching The Surface to massive fan acclaim. Why this band is not as big as they should have been is extremely puzzling to me as this DVD documents a monumental band of massive power that should have been at the top of the game with the likes of Rush and Yes.  The fans that have discovered Saga have stayed with them and reveled in their mastery and kept them in the spotlight they so deserve.
