Pearl - Gibson Amphitheater - Los Angeles, CA 09/10

Few rock artists can come along and really blow the doors off of the establishment on the first go round but Pearl has.  With her debut record, Little Immaculate White Fox, she has released what must be heralded as one of the best debut albums to amaze a rabid rock crowd in awhile.  Now, anybody can sound great on record with the technology that is available but the testament is translating to the stage.  That time for me came with her recent appearance at the Gibson Amphitheater and it was pure anticipation.  Her band is very tight with Scott Ian and Jim Wilson on Guitar, Marcus Blake on Bass, Andy Hurley on Drums and with Pearl up front belting out her emotion filled tunes the band is pure electricity…  The show kicked off hard with her anthem ready lead song from LIWF, “Rock Child”.  “Rock Child” epitomizes her perfectly considering who her dad is and what she grew up around.  She IS THE Rock Child and this shows because after playing the backline for so long she deserves to be out front.  More from the debut followed with the overtly emotional “My Heart Isn’t In It”, which should be a #1 AOR track to the machine gun guitar antics of  the monstrous rock track “Check Out Charlie”.  “Mama” is another track that tugs at the heart strings and the music is pure 1970.  Jim Wilson is a phenomenal songwriter and guitarist and his classic soulful licks that weave throughout the track make this a different song for these times.  Their cover of Nutbush City Limits, the original was performed by Tina Turner, closed out the show with a roar as she tore this version up and had the crowd in the palm of her hand.  Pearl is the real deal, an honest rock singer with deep roots in music and real taste in music.  Its hard to find a great pure rock album these days but Pearl and her band have dealt one with Little Immaculate White Fox and their show backs up the record.
