Rockstar Mayhem Tour 2010 - San Manuel Amphitheater - Devore, CA 7/10
by Jeffrey Easton
Once again Southern California was invaded by one of THE Metal tours of the year and Metal Exiles was there to capture it all. Two side stages and a venomous main stage were set up to showcase the talent that was brought forth to entertain the masses and sweet shit there were masses. Thousands upon thousands were on hand to brave the dire heat to witness the hardcore and thunderous metal. Mainstays of the metal circuit like Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, Chimaira and Atreyu were attacking the Silver Star And Jagermeister stages of course and In This Moment and Winds Of Plague, although still young bands, were making their presence felt. It was a long hot dirty afternoon on the side stages with the crowds kicking up the desert dirt as they bestowed their allegiance to the bands that they praised. To me Shadows Fall took the crown of the side stages. They are the American metal band to contend with and they stood several heads above all. Their new record is entitled Retribution and it is worth every penny you will drop on it.
The main stage was going to be a massive surprise for metal fans but Five Finger Death Punch was not it. This band has one trick up their sleeve and it is not very good. Once their set was over it was like Peace came from above. Lamb Of God have never put on a bad show and tonight they came through like never before. It seems the older they get the angrier they get and the attitude was poured on. Out in support of Hourglass, their sick new three CD box set, Randy and company came out and brought the maniacs out in Devore and sent them into a frenzy. The highlight of the night was Rob Zombie, period. His stage show was unreal, like classic KISS on steroids. Hellbilly Delux Part 2 is the record they are out on but they did manage to get some of the older material into the set like More Human Than Huma, Thunder Kiss 65 as well as Dragula and Living Dead Girl. The best visuals, abnd and stage, was for Werewolf Women of the SS. The humor was dripping like the sweat of the fans and it made a statement that Rob was there to entertain. KORN closed out the set and their staging was unreal, a mock oilfield which I am sure was a stab at BP which was the big headline when they rolled through here. Jonathan Davis always puts his heart and soul into his performance which equals full emotion for his lyrics and this show was no different. They are in support of KORN III which I feel is their best and most important album to date. It was also well represented with Oildale, Pop a Pill, Let the Guilt Go and Uber- Time as well as older stuff like Falling Away From Me and Freak On A Leash. This was a great show and a well put together tour. Hails to Rockstar Mayhem for once again giving the fans the metal they want instead of just whatever happens to be selling at the moment.
