Heart – Magazine – Audio Fidelity/Capitol

By Jeffrey Easton

Heart epitomized what 70’s hard rock was all about.  They had the look, the flair and the massive arena sized songs, they had it all.  With that, we have Magazine, Heart’s second album and the one with the most controversy around it.  The release of this album created strife and legal battles but at the end of the day it was the fans that won because it was properly reissued and radio was rocked heavily with the first single, Heartless.  Heartless, to me, is one of the best songs that Heart conjured up in their original heyday and one of the heaviest. Magazine was also a very diverse album with the dark and heavy Devil Delight sandwiched with the earthly Just The Wine and the Here Song.  Not bound to their own material they tackled Badfinger’s Without You and completely made it their own with Ann’s powerful vocals taking the track to new heights. Now, with Audio Fidelity, Magazine has found a new life with the Hybrid SACD release of this amazing album.  This superb limited edition remaster comes as a Super Audio CD and the sound of this album has never been better. You have yet to really hear this album until you slide this reissue into your player, prepare to pick your jaw off of the floor.
