Epitaph Farewell World Tour
By Jennifer Martinez
On Saturday, October 22nd, 2011 Judas Priest Performed at the San Manuel Amphitheater, an event I have been waiting for since May when they announced their final world tour. They took the stage at 9:40 pm and the crowd roared when the Epitaph curtain came flying down and the band launched into “Rapid Fire” which is the first track on their legendary British Steel album. It is amazing how Rob Halford, who just turned 60 years old, can still pull off his famous high notes which leaves you in awe. They gave us a trip through their massive catalog, blistering us with the tracks “Heading Out to the Highway”, “Starbreaker”,”Never Satisfied”, “Painkiller”, ”Judas Rising “and” The Sentinel”, just to name a few of the 21 songs. When they played “Victims of Changes” I was star struck and hypnotized on how Halford sounded as crisp as an album that was recorded back in 1976, it was just mind boggling. Since K.K Downing is no longer in the band we didn’t know what to expect for new member Richie Faulkner, but he gave it a youth perspective as if he was meant to be in Priest. The stage had pyrotechnics and lasers throughout the show, making every single song its own individual spectacle. There were some technical difficulties with the audio which made it sound as if there was a blanket over the amplifier which threw the sound off somewhat for me. All in all it was a great show for me; Priest delivered the goods once again and I lost my voice singing my heart out.
