Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience – The Crest Theater, Sacramento, CA 10/12

By Jeffrey Easton

Led Zeppelin was possibly the most influential rock band to come along, period.   Their eight studio records show diversity amongst the hard rock they delivered but that legacy was cut short due to the death of John Bonham and whole generations went without seeing this massive act live.  Enter Jason Bonham and his Led Zeppelin Experience.   With a show and a sound that’s dead on to the original, he can truly say he is giving you the real Experience.  He was on tour with Zeppelin, he has felt the real energy and here he is giving that energy back to the diehard fans.  Also like the diversity that Zep displayed throughout their releases, so did Jason on choosing the set list.  He could have solely delivered the hard hitting stuff like show opener Rock N Roll, Over The Hills And Far Away and Whole Lotta Love but he knows the wants of the fans that loved III as much as they did Presence and Houses Of the Holy.  With that in mind the band delved into the slower darker tracks Thank You, No Quarter as well as the lost ode to love Fool In The Rain.  To me Fool could have been the most diverse and most unlikely track to ever grace a Zep record but that’s what made them so unique is that they took chances.  Jason’s Led Zep Experience band is made up of seasoned vets and they delivered the material so well you could close your eyes and feel that the real band was there.  I never got to see the original Zeppelin deliver their inferno live so having the son of the great John Bonham giving me, a true Zep fan, that experience, was unbelievable.  If you have a chance to see this awe inspiring show you owe it to yourself to be in the seats when the lights go down.
