I See Stars/Chunk! No, Capitan Chunk/The White Noise – The Palladium, Worcester, MA 2/16

By Rickelle Tavares

For starters I’ve heard here and there about how wild The White noise gets during shows and how much fun seeing them live can be, but until the 24th I never had the chance. There were a few local acts that went on before The White Noise took the stage so the crowd was already a bit warmed up and ready to see what they had for us. Hailing from Southern Cali the band consists of Shawn Walker as lead vocals, David Southern on Guitar and backup vocals, Tommy West for drums, Josh Strock Guitar and Bailey Crego for bass. Opening up they really took me for surprise they hit you hard and fast but in a completely crazy and fun way. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the kinds of moves live before that Shawn was making it was just in sync to how hard he was feeling his music, they got the pits opened up too. Not too long into the set Shawn climbed up on top of the speakers and sang as the crowd roared with excitement.  They’re currently touring in promotion of their new album titled “Aren’t You Glad” which is a new spin for them and is gaining respect and popularity from fans and people everywhere. The top single released on this album is Picture Day which they played live and was so incredibly good, it’s almost impossible to not own at least one song from them after that performance.

Chunk! No, Capitan Chunk! I can start in so many different directions with this band, what’s not to love? A kick ass band with awesome French accents that know how to throw down in America, they’re perfect. Formed in 2007 in Paris France, Chunk No Capitan Chunk’s current band mates are Bertrand "Bert" Poncet as lead vocals, Éric Poncet as lead guitar, Paul Cordebard Rhythm guitar and vocals and Bastien Lafaye on the drums. These guys are like the secret formula for success, they all have their own special talent that contributes to the band. Before they actually took the stage everyone was actually chanting for them to come out until they did then came the infamous push from the pits opening up and the played their song Haters Gonna Hate and it set off their set for the night. With the pits going and everyone jumping up and down it was so much fun to be a part of as I myself am a CNCC fan, I’ve seen them live before and every single time they deliver a solid performance. What suck with me and got every single person in the room singing whether they knew CNCC was their cover of All Star. Everyone knows that song so everyone was screaming along to it and the pits were going nuts, Bert held the mic into the crowd a few times so fans could get a chance to sing along and even let one girl up on stage so she could dance with them. All in all their entire set was full of energy, from guitar flips high jumps and just getting the crowd to genuinely enjoy the entire performance. I’ve never been disappointed from any time I’ve seen this band live and I will continue to go to every single show they play.

The Highlight of the night was when I See Stars took the stage. I personally have been a fan of them for a very long time and I was anticipating this tour their new album and their performance so much. I See Stars comes from Warren Michigan, with Devin Oliver as Lead Vocals, Brent Allen lead guitar, Andrew Oliver backup vocals/keyboard, Dakota Sammons on drums and Jeff Valentine on bass. If you’ve never heard of this band I’m assuming you live under a rock, They have 4  full length amazing albums and a new single titled Mobbin out that combine the metal core sound everyone loves with an almost EDM Techno twist that is absolutely irresistible. During this set from 1st song to last I was completely blown away. They played my personal favorite New Demons, Devin had asked everyone to get down as low as they could and on his mark along with the song everyone jumped as high as they could in the air and continued jumping the entire song. We were all entranced by the music, is so different to sit there and hear and see music performed live vs watching it online or just listening to the song. I See Stars puts on a show that’s so worth going and seeing live, I think they might actually sound better in person which is incredibly rare. After a Few songs in they slowed down the night for a second with their cover of the song Youth off of their Phases album. Everyone just swayed with their hands up lighters and phone flashlights on enjoying the raw talent Devin possesses acoustically, Youth is a great song for them to have picked to slow things down. It didn’t last though we were thrown into Violent Bounce (People like You) which is a crazy good song, it features some sick beats and intense vocals from Devin. In mid set Devin climbed up the speakers and finished the entire song from all the way up there it was so awesome to witness and definitely something I’d expect from them. Unfortunately shortly after that they said thank you for being an amazing crowd and exited the stage, but we didn’t let that happen immediately after that all you could hear was “ONE MORE SONG, ONE MORE SONG”. They came back out and started playing Ten Thousand Feet, everyone at that point went insane. That song can get anyone up and raging, it has the perfect combination of beats, vocals, and screams. It was the best way to end the night, we got rowdy and had a blast to one of the best songs I See Stars put out. If you have time I urge you to check them out if you don’t already know them, if you do try to catch them on the Light In The Cave Tour!
