Hunter Valentine – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 1/13
By Jeffrey Easton
Hunter Valentine defines the underdog band, pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, working hard while staying on the road nonstop and slinging out gritty, heavy music. Their live show is stripped down with the focus on the music and that is exactly what the crowd in Sac got tonight. They are touring on their massively amazing Collide And Conquer, their new LP, that just dropped a few months ago and judging by the screams they got in return, the fans are already savoring it. After opening up with a few sinister cuts from Lessons From the Late Night in the form of Revenge, Scarface and The Stalker, they dove straight into Conquer with Lonely Crusade, the soon to be anthem Little Curse (Shit Happens) and the massive guitar driven first single Liar Liar. Even though they had a few technical difficulties with Veronica Sanchez’s amp they continued to plow through the set like the true pros they are. Kiyomi McCloskey, vocalist/guitarist, had the crowd wrapped around her finger through the entire set and did not let go until the last note dropped. This band is going nowhere but up and with Collide And Conquer there are no boundaries.
