Hawthorne Heights – Zero – Red River

By Jeffrey Easton

It’s been awhile but Hawthorne Heights are finally back with a full length and it was worth the wait.  Zero is a master stroke, a work of pure musical genius and it will be their calling card for years.  When a band nails it people know about it and they will know Zero.  Revolving around the CALM organization, this conceptual piece follows this band of outsiders as they battle against this corrupt company and their evil deeds.  The tracks are bombastic, surreal and thought provoking.  They make you look at yourself as well as what’s around you.  Opening the album is their best leadoff salvo to date, Memories Of Misery, a sinister track of full throttle hard rock and the story drops on the fans.  After that the record falls into place with one catchy piece after the next: Darkside, Spark, Anywhere But Here and their anthem to top all anthems, the title track Zero.  This will go down as the best thing to drop from the pens of HH, period.  Filler?  No, not here, every track is a needed piece of the puzzle and a guitar fueled event. This band gets off and fires on all cylinders with Zero.  They also inject a piece of melancholy with the daring Hollow Hearts Unite, a darkly penned track that must be “Listened” to top get the full feel.  When you buy this album and slide it in, you will know you have what could be the album of the year in many circles and a true work of art.
