Hellyeah/Devour The Day/Like A Storm – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 2/15

By Jeffrey Easton

So the 2015 touring season has started and for the kick off it couldn’t get to a louder nastier bang than with Hellyeah. When Vinnie Paul and his crew of vagrants hit the stage it is utter mayhem and they brought some loud friends with them this time around. Devour The Day and Like A Storm are road warriors themselves and they blew the task at hand away..

Like A Storm are out with a vengeance, touring on their success and the fact they are about to drop the biggest album of their careers in the form of Awaken The Fire.  Once they hit the stage that is exactly what they did, awaken a fire in the crowd as they screamed for them the entire set.  For those who had never witnessed Like A Storm live they were blown away by the vicious attack the band displays live and the fact that Chris Brooks is one of the best frontmen going has music fiends ready to jump on their train. They killed the crowd with new stiff from Awaken The Fire like Never Surrender, Love The Way You Hate Me and Wish You Hell as well as the amazing cover of Gangsters Paradise.

Devour The Day brought their pure aggressive spirit to this Cali stage and they raged hard.  Still out on the road for the immense Time & Pressure, the guys brought out their heavier side and did not let up. Direct support for a band like Hellyeah is no easy task but they lived up to it.  Time & Pressure has been issued twice and it has been well worth having the newer version with Check Your Head and the alternate version of Good Man. Having the notoriety of being the core of Egypt Central they already had a following but being Devour the Day is so much better.  Respect, Blackout as well as get Out Of My Way and Check Your Head in the live setting only showcases their melodic senses while combining roaring guitars supplied by Joey Walser and David Hoffman. If you do not have T & P in your hands yet you are seriously missing out.

And so we have the main event, Hellyeah.  Vonnie and his band of brothers continue their rampage four albums into their career with the massive Blood For Blood.  What makes Blood For Blood so great is that it has a massive melodic sense to it while retaining their devastating brutality and considering its sales charts, I am not the only one who thinks this. The lights hit and savagery was on and their title song Hellyeah ignited the masses. Like I said the new album, Blood For Blood, is a massive stroke of heaviness and the band gave their die hard following a massive dose of it with the Sangre Por Sangre, Demons In The Dirt, Cross To Bier as well as DMF and Say When. The new album has done so well the fans knew every word and Chad Grey had a loud chorus in front of him for every word he dropped. They couldn’t leave the stage without their anthems Drink Drank Drunk as well as Alcohaulin’ Ass and Cowboy Way so Ace Of Spades was not left empty handed.  There is no stopping Hellyeah, with the high profile tours and the albums they deal, they are in it for good.
