Halford - The Grove of Anaheim - Anaheim, CA 12/10
By Jeffrey Easton
All good things must come to an end and after seeing Halford at the Grove I feel that rings true. I have had the privilege of seeing Halford perform on stage with one band or another over the last 20 plus years and I can see that the end is near. The shows are not the same; an element of tiredness has crept in and it seems as if “going through the motions” has become a way of life. This is not to say that Halford cannot deliver, he just cannot do a whole show anymore. It seems that when he gets a second wind or is not tired, he comes across like he performed during “Heart Of A Lion”, but otherwise the show was a drag.
The show opened up well enough with Resurrection, the song that put his solo career back on the map, as well as a great version of Nailed To The Gun but the rest of the set was delivered in a lackluster fashion. Diamonds and Rust, Jawbreaker, Locked and Loaded, Drop Out, Cyberworld - take your pick of what did not stand out. I wanted to like Made In Hell but I feel as though for that to happen it will just have to be relegated to playing on a stereo and not played in concert from now on. Though, at least he did represent Made Of Metal with Undisputed and Like There’s No Tomorrow, amongst others. Recently a press release came out stating that Judas Priest is retiring, so hopefully that encompasses Halford's other projects as well because if you cannot do it 100% then do not do it at all.
