Halestorm/In This Moment/Eve To Adam – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 11/12

By Jeffrey Easton

Metal goes many ways and tonight it went right into theater, grit and balls out beauty.  In This Moment supplied the theater, Eve To Adam and Halestorm supplied the, well you see where this is going.  This was one the best end of the year tours that could have come together with both Halestorm and ITM supporting the best album of their careers, period.

The evening opened with Eve To Adam, still out supporting their break through record Banquet For A Starving Dog and they got the crowd going.  2 Pills from Queens To Eden opened up the set and considering this was the first time I had witnessed them live I was blown away.  From the aforementioned breakthrough record they shelled the fans with No Regret and Reach, two standout tracks that have only gained the band more notoriety. They covered a rock classic with Idol’s Rebel Yell perfectly and introduced a new song called Straightjacket Supermodel that is coming from their next record.  That gained a buzz in the crowd so I predict this is their ticket to the top.

In This Moment, disturbing and dark, just two words I can give to describe what I witnessed.  Maria Brink is a true performer, the stage is her home as she gave the performance of her life.  Leaving her emotions on the stage as her band blew the doors off of the club was her intention it seems and she did just that.  Blood is the new record and it is their deepest, sickest record to date.  To say it was represented is an understatement. Rise With Me opened the show and set the tone for the utter darkness that ensued. Adrenalize continued the intense anger on the stage and Whore only made it more intense.  With the performance of Whore, Maria put everything she had into it, making use of her props and impassioned vocals, it was a disturbing feel.  The first single from the record, Blood, closed out the show and the fans went crazy.  It has to be the closest she has come to completely laying herself bare on the stage and with that it was over.

Halestorm were the headliner and they treated it that way by closing the show down with pure thunder.  Lzzy Hale is the consummate front woman.  She can belt it out while playing a sick rhythm and still keep command of the stage with the fans into everything she is doing.  They are out on tour for The Strange Case Of.. which is an amazing piece of work and they dealt a majority of it to the willing crowd.   Opening the show were the opening tracks of the new LP, Love Bites (So Do I) and Mz. Hyde, with that, the fans were sold.  The band do covers and in fact have the ReAnimate EP of covers so that being said they did massive justice to their cover of GnR’s Out Ta Get Me but the focus again is the new record and the sickening new tracks Freak Like Me and You Call Me A Bitch Like It’s a Bad Thing as well as Break In were showcased to a “Give Me More” crowd.  Halestorm have come a long way and they deserve all of this success and the fans hung in on every note like the dedicated followers they are. The show closed to a massive encore of Here’s To Us and I Miss The Misery which left the crowd breathless and hanging in the balance.  This is the top tour of the Fall and possibly the best pairing of bands this year.
