For Today/Like Moths To A Flame – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 1/14
By Jeffrey Easton
Sacramento felt the massive weight of heaviness tonight as For Today touched down for their current trek and shook Ace Of Spades to its core. One of the first great bills of the year, this paired them with another massive weight of loudness in the form of Like Moths To A Flame and with these two bands topping the bill it was bound to be lethal. There were a few more opening bands but a prior engagement kept me from seeing them but I did walk in in the middle of Stray From The Path’s set and I wish I had come in 15 minutes later. Thankfully their set came to an end and one of the bands I have been looking forward to came out and took complete control of the stage. Like Moths To A Flame are still a newer band, building their following and now out with their second record, Eye For An Eye. From the first note the fans were down with them and they overtook the crowd with their pummeling but yet infectiously melodic sound. The set was sickening and filled with what has made their first two records monsters including Learn Your Place, You Won’t Be Missed, You’ll Burn as well as The Worst In Me and The Common Misconception. This band has a future no matter the scene, do not underestimate them.
Whereas LMTF got the crowd up, For Today pushed them over the edge. Mattie Montgomery came out and took control of the crowd and served as a massive inspiration with his uplifting lyrics and powerful words in between the tracks. This was the first night of the tour supporting their massive new record Fight the Silence so this was a night full of massive debuts that was going to slay their crowd. Break The Cycle, Pariah, My Confession and Flesh And Blood, all from Fight The Silence, found their way onto the set list as well as the title track for the new record and the crowd gave them loud support for the new material. Fight the Silence is a massive testimonial to how they feel for their religion and once you spin it you will know that same surge, it is a must listen. The older material was not left behind as they whipped out Fearless as well as Arm The Masses, Foundation and Devastator. For Today have been around for a long time and there is a reason for that, the fans get it and they are here for the fans, it’s a mutual admiration. Go buy Fight The Silence, you will not regret it and see them live, its unforgettable.
