Enuff Z 'Nuff – Covered In Gold – Deadline/Stoney

By Jeffrey Easton

Enuff Z Nuff are survivors, period. After over 25 years of touring and releasing records they are still at it and delivering the goods. 2014 has them unleashing their massive covers album Covered In Gold and it was worth the wait. With this release, Chip Z Nuff and his band have tackled some amazing tracks and seriously made them their own. Some of the tracks have surfaced as bonus tracks on Japanese releases but most are now seeing the light of day in America.  The album opens with the Cheap Trick classic Everything Works If You Let It and the albums rolls amazingly well from there. They are at their best when they tackle old school material like Jealous Guy and Tears Of A Clown as I always felt this was where the band was rooted but they dive in well with the likes of The Jean Genie and The Stroke. Standing out hard as well is When Doves Cry, one of the better Prince cuts and their brilliant take on the Great American Hero theme Believe It Or Not, which to me was the better surprise of the record.  There is also the amazing in the studio with Howard Stern cut You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away which is just jaw dropping and New Thing, Live In London.  Enuff Z Nuff again are one of the most underrated bands of all time, with their massive catalog of superior albums they should be revered as the massively talented band they have always been.
