Gary Moore – Blues For Jimi – Eagle Vision
By Jeffrey Easton
Gary Moore, why wasn’t he a household name on par with Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck etc. The people that were his contemporaries but yet had a bigger name than he did although his talent was at or above theirs in many ways. Gary was the consummate guitar player, adapting to styles as if he created them himself, from hard rock to heavy blues in the wink of an eye, from record to record. So here we have one of his best outings, Blues For Jimi, his tribute concert to one of the best guitarists the music gods gave us. Hendrix was an enormous influence on many people, Gary included and here it shows that Gary could give back to Jimi’s legend in spades. Gary’s talent was so enormous that he could deliver Jimi’s songs as if he wrote them himself, shedding off all of the wannabes that have had a stab at what Jimi did. Through the monster tracks like Purple Haze, Stone Free, My Angel as well as Hey Joe and Voodoo Child, Gary’s licks brought back insane memories of when rock guitar was still young and innovative, no boundaries and here was Gary, reigniting it. At the end of the show Gary was joined on stage by Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell, two of the best known sidemen to Jimi and they completed the circle back to Jimi himself. All of this made for an amazing show with amazing songs delivered by Mr. Gary Moore, what else could you want? This is also available as a CD as well.
