Rolling Stones – Some
Girls/Live In Texas ’78 – Eagle Vision
By Jeffrey Easton
1978 was a a great year for the Rolling Stones, not only did they release the great Some Girls LP, they embarked on what would be one of the best tours they had ever completed in America. Drawing thousands of fans and filling stadiums, they showed that no matter what was filling the charts (you remember disco, right?), Rock N Roll still dominated the concert scene and the Stones were there to prove that point. Filming rock concerts was still a new thing then and thank the rock gods that this was preserved because it showed the Stones at their dominating best. Let It Rock, When The Whip Comes Down, Respectable, Far Away Eyes as well as Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Brown Sugar, were played with fire and fervor as the audience screamed, and I mean Screamed, for more. The stage was stripped down, almost giving a bar band feel to the set and with their music and stage presence, the extras were not needed really because they always delivered the goods. Rounding out this DVD is their appearance on Saturday Night Live with Mick being interviewed by Dan Aykroyd imitating Tom Snyder on the Tomorrow Show as well as playing Beast Of Burden, Respectable and Shattered. Also they have provided us with an interview from ABC’s 20/20 and a new interview with Mick himself. Some Girls is a great DVD and if you miss true rock then you need this to remind yourself of what you used to have.
