Twisted Sister - Double Live
Twisted Sister – Double Live – Eagle Vision
By Jeffrey Easton
Twisted Sister is synonymous with metal so it would stand to reason that we would be bestowed with yet another DVD release to celebrate their massive career. Their influence is enormous and to go back to 1982 and see the North Stage performance, you can tell why. Disc one shows us their final performance from North Stage, a legendary club on Long Island, NY. Twisted Sister owned the New York club scene and after watching this DVD you come to an understanding as to why. Even though they were not signed they had the look, the songs and the command that any major label rock band has or had that has come down the pike in the last 40 years. That is why they made it like they did and this DVD, again, tells you why. They came out of the chute Blasting What You Don’t Know, Destroyer and Tear It Loose as if they were the band equivalent of a runaway truck. This was a band without a record out at the time, they had yet to even record their debut and they are playing like they were on a world tour with a million sold already. Shoot Em Down, You Cant Stop Rock N Roll, Sin After Sin as well as Bad Boys Of Rock N Roll blasted the set as well and they left the crowd begging for more, as they should have.
The second DVD is from New York Steel 2001, the tribute show to the fallen and heroes of 9/11, the terrible tragedy to fall on the Twin Towers in NYC. This was the first time Twisted Sister had been on stage together in over a decade and it took a monumental disaster to make this reunion happen. Eddie Trunk put the show together and his wish was for Twisted Sister to play and of course for the sake of New York how could they not, I mean they grew up there so they were almost obligated to do so. The set was littered with classics that made Sister what they were, like Stay Hungry, Burn In Hell, The Price, SMF and You Can’t Stop Rock N Roll amongst others. Both discs come with interviews detailing each show and they are in depth and worth the price of admission. These two contrasting shows, almost 20 years apart still shows a band hungry for the stage and the power that an audience gives a band. If these were the bookends of a career then I would say you could do no better but Sister still gives it to us and the fans are Still Hungry for it.
