Currents

By Rickelle Tavares

Currents is a band I’ve been following and listening to since day one, I can have their songs on repeat for hours and never get tired of them. The band is originally from Connecticut with the members as Brian Wille/vocals, Jeff brown/Drums, Chris Wiseman/Guitar along with Ryan Castaldi, and Dee Cronkite on the bass. They as a whole create a sound that captivates the listener as well as audiences. Before their tour with Within The Ruins I had no idea what to expect, hearing something and watching it live are two completely different things. The lyrics and the raw emotion that generate from every album down to their newest single Withered give you this almost connection where you can feel and link into whatever they were feeling when the songs were written. As they were setting up the stage to go on I was extremely excited, they are not only one of my favorite bands but they were also super nice and interactive with everyone which I find very rare and humble. They opened with Anxiety which is a personal favorite, just the intro it’s self is incredible. While preforming Brian almost turns into a different person from what you see before they start I’m talking veins protruding and insane body gestures, the deep range his voice carries is chilling and amazing all at the same time. While I was shooting I took a moment to look at the crowd’s reaction to Currents, everyone was really into them and head banging to the song in sync. They ended their set with their newest song Withered, which has a slightly different sound than their previous album Life//Lost but still has the same heavy feel to it. Lyrics are amazing, vocals are pure perfection, bass and drums are definitely heavy, and the guitar riffs combine everything together to make the sound only Currents can create. So if you don’t know them I strongly advise you look them up, anything they have out is worth listening to.
