Cradle of Filth - Fox Theater - Pomona, CA 2/11

Picture
by Jeffrey Easton

Darkness descended upon Pomona once the curtain opened for Cradle of Filth, for the mayhem had begun.  Cradle are the face of black metal in terms of sales and popularity and they continue to bring in hordes of fans to their shows, converting naysayers in the wake of the maelstrom that is their show.  The proceedings began with the haunting introduction Humana Inspired to Nightmare, a beautifully sinister piece, and it was time.  The older material was given precedence here with the creepy visuals of Funeral Torn Asunder as well as Funeral in Carpathia and Honey and Sulphur, all sickening classics in their own right. They are touring for a dark and ominous release in the form ofDarkly Darkly Venus Aversa and it was well represented with the harrowing tracks Lilith Immaculate as well as The Cult ff Venus Aversa. This is again a concept record, one which you seriously need to immerse yourself into to fully feel and understand it. Dani Filth has a full understanding on how to write a monstrous play of the mind and it unfolds time and again on record and Darkly is no exception.  The loyal following in Pomona went wild for the new material as well they should.  Rounding out the set were sinister show stoppers like Ebony Dressed For Sunset, The Forest Whispers My Name as well as Cruelty Brought Three Orchids and From The Cradle To Enslave. If you have yet to witness the tour for Darkly or have reservations about seeing Cradle, they need to be put aside and enter ye to the realm of cradle for a visual you will never forget.
