Dio – Finding the Sacred Heart/Live In Philly 1986 – Eagle Rock
By Jeffrey Easton
By the time Sacred Heart dropped in 1985 Dio was a full blown entity that every metal fan respected and wanted to be a part of. Their tours were massive, the songs were larger than life and Ronnie could do no wrong. With Sacred Heart, Craig Goldy was introduced to the fervent fan base and his guitar skills made Sacred Heart a must hear event. With the tour, it just got bigger, louder and more dangerous. The setlist was unreal, with classics, soon to be classics and Dio’s unmistakable roar taking up the aura of the stage. Now here its is in 2013 and that tour and album are being celebrated again with the release of Finding the Sacred Heart/Live In Philly 1986, a must have live album that every Dio fan will snap up. The sound has been pristinely remastered and you feel as if you were there in the sweaty pit raising your devil horns with Ronnie. The set was heavy with tracks from Sacred Heart and since it was one of Ronnie’s best solo records, that was more than welcome. King Of Rock N Roll and Like The beat Of A Heart open the set and it was massively welcomed by the throngs of fans as well as Hungry For Heaven, to me, one of Ronnie’s signature songs. Knowing the power of Sacred Heart, he belts out the title track as well as Rock N Roll Children, masterfully done. AT that point, his time in Rainbow and Sabbath wasn’t that long ago so those tunes were still fresh so the screams went out for Heaven And Hell as well as Long Live Rock N Roll. The dominate set closed out with Rainbow In The Dark and We Rock and that’s exactly the mantra of his life, We Rock.
