Saxon – Sacrifice – UDR
By Jeffrey Easton
Since making a huge splash with 2011’s Call To Arms, Saxon have been on fire. With a massive swing the States along with huge Euro tours, they have reignited their fires and have created a metal bullet with their next salvo, Sacrifice. Sacrifice is what heavy music is all about and they have indeed swung the metal hammer hard with this record. As one of the few bands to survive the NWOBHM, they have been stalwarts of the metal scene releasing classic after classic and this album sits up there with their best. An ominous drone opens the affair only to fall back to make way for the nasty title track. They can set the table and clear it in a heartbeat with the riffs they are known for. This band has aged well, not missing a beat and it shows well in their truest mantra, Warriors Of The Road. This band stays on the road and this should stay in their set from here on out. It only gets heavier with Wheels Of Terror and Night Of The Wolf as well as the overbearing Stand Up And Fight. This is a bombastic metal album formed in the old school mold and should be reckoned with. They have influenced so many bands and this record is the reason why.
