Tremonti – All I Was – Fret 12
By Jeffrey Easton
THE Rock record of the year arrived in the form of mark Tremonti’s solo record All I Was and for him there should be no looking back. This is Mark coming out of his shell, his nod to the hard rock/metal community that he is in fact one of them and can shred at the drop of a dime. In his first outing outside the confines of Creed and Alter Bridge he is swinging a big Louisville Slugger and the riffs will pound you like one. The album opens with what I feel is the best thing to come from Mark’s guitar, the stinging Leave It Alone. The riffs alone are worth the price of admission but Mark is also singing and his gritty forceful vocals push the song even harder, greatness period. To put it further, the songs are heavy and with the help of producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, they are even heavier. Michael has brought everything to the front, cleanly. The double bass drums are crisp enough to crak your speakers and make any metal band blush with envy. So Your Afraid, the second best entry on the record, has Mark slinging one of the best solos I have yet to hear from his guitar, full of fleet fingers and unbelievable grit. The album falls in line, track after track, heavy riffs displayed on Wish You Well and You Waste Your Time, the ballad like the Things I Have Seen is amazing and still with the heavy driving riffs that do not shelve the emotion of the song. If you are a fan of Mark’s work, then you are not complete without All I Was.
