Nigel Dupree – Up To No Good – Mighty Loud
By Jeffrey Easton
The apple usually does not fall far from the tree and that is true in this case. Jesse James Dupree’s offspring, Nigel, has dealt his debut solo record and it is a hard rock affair that rivals his dad’s best work. The vibe is the same but the influences are different in some ways. Where as dad took some cues from Black Oak Arkansas and AC/DC, Nigel seemingly listened to Tesla growing up and that is worn on his sleeve proudly. This hard rock assault burns from the first note to the last and it opens appropriately enough with Attitude and his career is sold. Attitude is the quintessential hard rock song and it should be burning airwaves as this is THE description for this record. First single, Tumbleweed, is a low slung grinding affair showing off his southern roots and a nasty track to down that next drink to. Say Watcha Say and Trouble continue the fire as well as one of the best tracks on the album with Control. As hard as this record burns, it does have a sentimental side with the slow grooves that are The Chooser and Hold On but still showing serious power underneath. Nigel has come out swinging with a solid rock record that swings at you with the power of a baseball bat. This Georgia boy is going to make his mark in hard rock so you better get in now.
