Jim Wilson - S/T
Jim Wilson – S/T
By Jeffrey Easton
Jim Wilson, noted guitarist for Henry Rollins, Black Dub, Pearl, Mother Superior amongst others, has released what should be the album of his life. Playing with a band or sessioning is one thing, but putting your name on a project is another and this album blasts Jim Wilson. His guitar abilities are unbelievable as is the songwriting, it is unmatched. This debut solo record rides an emotional rollercoaster from the balls out rock of Killer and Bleeding to the atmospheric Cry Now and heart string pulling Honest Mistake. Jim’s guitar tone strokes classic rock, country, hard rock and blues into a blend that cannot be resisted. He did not go into this record unarmed, this is a rock record in the way they used to be made, guitars out front, memorable songs and a reason to crank your record player up enough to piss your neighbors off. Jim did have some help with luminaries like Joey Vera, Russell Mael and Daniel Lanois amongst others. This will be one of the best records released in 2011 and it would be criminal if did not hit top 10 lists around the world.
