Rainbow - Live In Germany 1976
Rainbow – Live In Germany 1976 – Eagle Records
By Jeffrey Easton
Rainbow was kicking into massive gear by 1976, they had just released Rising and with their best LP to date on the shelves it was time to tour. Their Euro tour was played to massive audiences and their set list was culled from two impressive LPs and the songs were brilliant. Elongated versions of now Rainbow classics like Mistreated, Man On The Silver Mountain and Stargazer besieged the audiences and by the sounds of reactions on this massive live outing they were right to pull them out like this. This collection, Live In Germany 1976, is a stunning reminder of this period in Rainbow and Ronnie James Dio’s life. How he projected Blackmore’s material with his unrealistic lyrics is beyond me but his ability to is spellbinding even to this day. Stargazer in its elongated form shows the technical ability of Rainbow and how Ronnie had the masterful power to keep an audience into the moment. Man On The Silver Mountain was stunning and Catch The rainbow was spellbounding. Bands do not do this type of show today or else they would get stared at, to many people want a four minute track and move on to the next crowd pleaser, this band did it right. I am not a huge fan of live records but Live in Germany caught Rainbow at their near best. This set is indeed immortal and their music will forever live on..
