Speed\Kill/Hate - Loaded - Wino - Creepin' Cadavers
Speed\Kill/Hate - Out for Blood
Hammerfist
By Jeffrey Easton
Thrash has a dangerous injection for 2011 and its name is Speed\Kill/Hate. With its second full length to date they have come out with a record that can be easily termed as “Motherfucking Hard”. Back after a multi-year absence Dave Linsk, brutal guitarist for Overkill, has brought his behemoth of band back with a new line up but the same thirst for blood they had with Acts Of Insanity. After one pass through this record I came to one conclusion, Dave is an angry human being in the realm of his song writing and I would hate to be the victim of his musical barbs. With Breeding Hate, Slain, The Cleansing as well as No Remorse and Written In Blood there are volumes of venom reeking through the tracks and with Bob Barnak spewing the vile words of hate this is truly an MX missile of a CD. Now its just not the lyrics but the guitars, the angry, churning guitars that drive the CD as well into a pissed off oblivion. The musical attack is just nasty and with the band, the words and the attitude Out For Blood is just the CD any self respecting thrash fiend needs. This will be the thrash release of the year, you better respect it.

Duff McKagan's Loaded - Sick CD/DVD Special Edition
Armoury
By Jeffrey Easton
Loaded’s second full length release was a reason to drink again. Not only was bad ass punk infused back in a big way under Duff’s moniker Loaded, but we got Duff’s debaucherous ways piled into a 13 track CD. It was one of the best releases of 2009 and it still holds up and it still sells a few years later because it was so good. Nothing else was like it, it stood on its on and even with a new release in the form of The Taking it still sounds like its on record. Now it has been rereleased with a few bonus tracks in the form of Roll Away and a stunning acoustic version of Wasted Heart as well as a bonus DVD. The DVD is well worth you plunking down the bucks again with the Live At The Garage, a great show from Glasgow 2008 as well as a promo video for No More. What else do you need to buy this again? You have webisodes from the band so you get that much more intimate look at the band because you know you want that. I like that the bands give more back to the fans and this CD/DVD edition of Sick is exactly what I am talking about.

Wino - Adrift
Exile on Mainstream
By Bubbs Harris
You can always count on Wino (Robert Scott Weinrich to you!) to deliver when it comes to thick heavy rock and roll straight from the bottom of a barrel of sour mash, what with being a figure of lore among the legion of sludge and doom faithful. But how would it sound if he turned the amps off and strummed an acoustic for a while? The answer to that is, fantastic. Adrift is as mellow and enjoyable an album as I’ve heard in a while. Who says it has to be loud to be heavy? Not the case here. The songs on this solo outing are just as heavy duty as anything else you are likely to hear from Wino, just played on grandpa’s guitars. This man is a masterful guitarist, that we can be sure of, but it’s the rough and grizzled voice that truly adds the texture to the tunes. He could pretty much be singing about anything and it would feel as if he was pulling the words right out of your soul. It’s that damn engulfing. Adrift was just the thing I needed when I came across it too. I was looking for something with more of a mellow groove for those easy Sunday mornings, and I’m glad I found this one. If you’re looking to take it down a notch, but still be justifiably rocked, pick this up and enjoy. Oh, one more thing. When listening to this record, it might be a good idea to smoke ‘em if you got ‘em. Just saying.

Creepin' Cadavers - Welcome to Arkham
Ghost Dog Records
By Bubbs Harris
I recently traveled up to Columbus, GA to do a show with some punk bands. One of those bands was the Arkham, MA Psychobilly trio Creepin’ Cadavers, who put on one hell of a fantastic show. After the band’s set I went over to the merch table and picked up their five song (six, if you count the unlisted cover of Misfits’ “We are 138”) E.P. , Welcome to Arkham. What I immediately loved about the album was that they used a lot of sound bites from Return of the Living Dead, which is my favorite zombie flick of all time. Hearing Clu Gulager’s voice before the first track had me smiling ear to ear, and I knew I was going to be in for a good ride. I also had the advantage of having seen the band live before hearing the record, which can work either way sometimes. I was quite pleased to hear the same quality on disc as I witnessed first hand on stage. The standup bass is prevalent on this record, making for a cool throwback experience, while the band’s creepy subject matter pays homage to their favorite horror films and bands like Koffin Kats and Misfits. “Aquarium” is the tune that rocks me the most on this offering, because it has such a great sing-along vibe that will have you bopping along in no time, even if it does make you feel a bit dirty after listening to then lyrics more closely. This style of music isn’t generally loved outside of it’s own little scene, but as a fan of multiple styles of music, there is no reason not to like this. It’s fun music. This band tours a lot, and they must be experienced live. Until they creep through your town, score yourself a copy of this gem.
