Black Veil Brides – S/T – Republic
By Jeffrey Easton
The Black Veil Brides burst onto an unsuspecting scene that was littered with the uninspired no names and firmly gave rock a new face with the drop of We Stitch These Wounds and now 4 years and 4 records later they own the scene. Black Veil Brides are an unstoppable juggernaut and with the drop of Black Veil Brides they will show all of the detractors they have been wrong all along. They inspire their fans with powerful self-affirming lyrics and melodies that never leave your head. This masterstroke of metal opens with the groove laden first single Heart Of Fire is a fire breathing stab into their fans hearts, hooking you in and never letting go. The opening is a sinister slab of everything that BVB does right and it only gets better from here. For those who claim that they are not metal, Faithless will sheer your detraction out. The riffs are furious and Andy’s vocals are as forceful as he pounds his positivity into your brain. Faithless is going to be the song the BVB Legion will wake up to everyday as they bring themselves into reality. Devil In The Mirror is yet another forceful reality check for the self-doubters. Positivity reigns in Andy’s lyrics and with Devil in The Mirror it will never be more prominent. The barrage does not let up nor does the band mire themselves in negativity as the album plows through World Of Agony, Last Rites and immaculate Stolen Omen. Walk Away however does change gears as BVB shows a different side of themselves. A wall of strings meet a wall of guitars provided by Jinxx and Jake Pitts as Andy soulfully pours out his heart. Just as the notes of Walk Away die out CC throws you back in the pit with his heavy as hell drums augmented by Ashley’s throbbing bass on the head banger Drag Me To The Grave. As heavy as the album began is as heavy as it ends. Crown Of Thorns burns the heart with razor sharp leads with Andy aggressively pleading his lyrics to your ears. I would say this is the end of the album but I know you are already on repeat. If this isn’t on Album Of The Year on rock lists then there is something very wrong with you..
