Wednesday 13/Stitched up Heart/Dead Rabbits/I Ya Toyah – The Glasshouse, Pomona, Ca, 03/25
By Jeffrey Easton
The night was electric as fans gathered to witness a spectacular lineup featuring I Ya Toyah, Dead Rabbits, Stitched Up Heart, and Wednesday 13, the There's No Such Thing As Monsters Tour. The venue buzzed with anticipation, and the air was thick with the promise of an unforgettable evening.
I Ya Toyah kicked things off with a mesmerizing performance, doing everything by herself, programming the band, playing guitar, demanding the crowds attention. Her dark, industrial sound fused seamlessly with haunting vocals, creating an eerie yet enthralling atmosphere with the set including Vast Spaces, Denial and closing with Panic Room. The audience was captivated by her stage presence and the intensity of her music.
Following I Ya Toyah, Dead Rabbits took the stage and ignited the crowd with their raw energy and passion. Their punk-inspired sound and relentless performance had the audience jumping and shouting along to every song, including highlights like opener Raisehell.exe, Dead Again, Hellscape and Deer In Headlights. The band's chemistry was palpable, and their enthusiasm was infectious. Craig Mabbitt is the consummate frontman and no matter if its Escape The Fate, Dead Rabbitts or his Emo Orchestra, he brings the best out of his voice and brings the fans into his world.
Stitched Up Heart was next and their performance was a rollercoaster of emotions, blending powerful vocals with heavy guitar riffs and pounding drums. Powerfully delivered cuts, To The Wolves, My Demon, Immortal, Possess Me and Sick Sick Sick, showcased the band's lead vocalist, Alecia "Mixi" Demner, commanding the stage with an emotive delivery, drawing the audience into the depths of each song. Mixi has promised to record Sick Sick Sick, which is an incredibly dark track, it deserves the light of day besides the stage. Their set was a masterclass in balancing intensity with vulnerability, leaving the crowd exhilarated and moved.
The night reached its climax with Wednesday 13, whose theatrical performance transformed the venue into a macabre wonderland. Known for his horror-themed lyrics and evil stage presence, Wednesday 13 did not disappoint. His performance was a visual and auditory feast, complete with excellent stage costumes, make up and spine-chilling vocals. When I see him and his excellent band live, I feel as though I am seeing what the Alice Cooper Band circa 1973 would sound like if they were cranking it today. The crowd that packed the Glasshouse was entranced by Wednesday spilling out Look What The Bats Dragged In, House By The Cemetery, God Is A Lie, Bad Things, The ghost Of Vincent Price. The energy in the room was thick, on fire and palpable until the very last note. Wednesday and his band did not disappoint, they left all of the blood on the stage. The tracks mentioned are from Transylvania 90210 which turns 20 this year. I interviewed Wednesday for this album in 2005 for Keeper Magazine and here he is, still releasing records, packing venues and doing great, now give us a 20th anniversary vinyl reissue of Transylvania!
