Relient K/House Of Heroes – Ace Of Spades, Sacramento, CA 7/12

By Jeffrey Easton

Touring is a ritual for some and for Relient K it’s a way of life.  For this trek out they took with them one of the best bands in the rock world today, House Of Heroes.  House Of Heroes have unleashed their fifth full length record in the form of Cold Hard Want and it is a melodic, hard hitting “must have” record.  With this record they pulled out all of the stops and in the live setting the tracks really come to life.  It would be great to see them headlining with this release but with the time they had they lit the crowd up and hammered home they have a new record out.  They opened the show with Remember The Empire from CHW and the crowd blew up.  They wanted HOH and they got them.  Out Of My Way and Touch This Light, also from CHW, charged the crowd even more and it continued to show just how powerful the new record is.  The set closer was the huge sounding chorus driven Dance(Blow It All Away) from the new record and that should be a hit single as it has radio all over it.  The old stuff was not ignored as they threw in Serial Sleepers and Code Name: Raven to the sheer delight of the crowd.  Relient K, what can you say about these hugely popular veterans of the rock scene?  After many years, records and tours they still command attention and a massive crowd as evidenced tonight at Ace Of Spades.   Although they are doing a new record, this is still a tour for the massively accepted Forget And Not Slow Down which is what they opened up with along with sliding in Savannah and Sahara, bot amazing tracks.  The concentration on the catalog was deep and everything they played had every fan lit up from the first note especially with Be My Escape, Who I Am and Which To Bury.  This is a hard working band live and their dedication to their fans has reaped many rewards for them and the showing at Ace Of Spades was a testament to that.
