Herman Rarebell – Herman’s Scorpions Songs – Solid Rockhouse

By Jeffrey Easton

When people think Scorpions, they harken back to the arena days with the larger than life personalities of the band and one of those was Herman Rarebell.  He was a a drummer amongst drummers and not only was he a powerhouse behind the kit, he was an enormous song writer as well.  Most fans might not realize but he had credits on a lot of the bigger Scorpions songs including Rock You Like A Hurricane and Loving You Sunday Morning.  So with Herman’s Scorpions Songs we find Herman teaming up with his closest rock buddies to take on these classics in a new arena and make them fresh and different for a new era.  Imagine John Parr tackling Passion Rules The Game or Don Dokken taking on You Give Me All I Need.  If there is a major classic vocalist he is here and that includes Paul Shortino giving it all to Love Is Blind and Jack Russell belting out Don’t Make No Promises.  Another Piece Of Meat was one of my faves from their darker era and it is given a royal treatment from ex Black Sabbath singer Tony martin, one of the royal vocalists.  Along with classic tracks like Arizona and Animal magnetism getting a redo, you have a new classic track in the form of Let It Shine, featuring Al Crespo of the band Unbreakable.  Let It Shine is what should be the follow up to Winds Of Change as it offers up a melody of peace in these dark times and a real compliment to the classics encased on this release.  Die hard Scorpions fan? This belongs in your collection so grab it and crank it up again.
