Mimobot - Designer USB Flash Drive

Mimobot, Designer USB Flash Drive - Tokidoki

Review By Rob ”Bubbs” Harris

I needed a new flash drive to store some of the ridiculous amount of music that is sitting on my computer, when what should happen to appear on my desk than this little guy. The Mimobot series of Designer USB flash drives from Tokidoki are, for a lack of a better word, cute. At least that’s what my wife thinks. I got Adios, a little skull faced dude that not only does what I need him to do, but who brings a little bit of personality to the pile of flashes lying around my work space. Coming equipped with plenty of extra features (Wall papers, Icons, etc.), Mimobots are a good gift idea for any younger family members around Christmas. I’m sure some of my friends may have something snide to say about my cute little robot friend, but he serves his purpose, which is more than I can say about some of those so-called friends. There are a bunch of different styles to choose from, and each one has a little back story to make them seem as if they were a little bit more alive. You can also choose to get ones with a number of different storage capacities to suit your particular needs ( I was sent a 4GB - Thanks Clint!). These things aren’t just like your cheap storage drives though. You have to make sure that you follow the directions and respect the drive, and it will respect you back. Check-out the website to find a Mimobot that fits your style.

Taylor Guitars - The Solidbody Electric

Picture
Taylor guitars have been responsible for fine acoustic and electric guitars for years and with the Solidbody Electric, they have upped the ante even more.  After removing this beautiful guitar from its case I was solid.  The contours of the body felt right and it was immensely easy to cradle while playing, a must for any serious musician, period.  Once plugged in, you knew the pickups that Taylor gave this model was perfect.  The burgundy Solidbody that I am playing came with two “Style 1” classic ¾ size humbuckers that give you a punch no matter what you are playing, whether it is metal or jazz (two great extremes, eh?)  it will be with you all the way.  They chose Elixer Strings for this guitar and the mixture of these gutsy strings and the ¾ humbuckers is nasty.  I suggest after they wear out you continue to use these.  If you want the right sound, you have to have the right strings but you knew that already.  This is a unique guitar and one of the things that helps it stand out is the custom bridge that eliminates intonation drift.  Stunning style can be a problem solver as well and leave it to Taylor to make it happen.  The neck is easy to play, very fast and it is a single bolt on that is adjustable.  The pickup switch is a 5 way and very easy to reach while playing which is a plus for me as I go for feel and the tone sets that.  You can go between Full Neck Pickup to Full Bridge quickly without missing a lick.  With the Solidbody, Taylor has fused everything they do right into one stunning piece of work, possibly one of the best guitars I have had in my hand to date.

Batt - O - Meter - The Musicians Battery Tester

Picture
by Jeffrey Easton

You are playing an important gig, a showcase for a major label and your effects pedal right before the crucial solo dies on you.  A bad battery has bit you again but like you keep telling yourself ‘never again’.  The embarrassment would have been avoided if you had the BATT-O-METER, one of the most ingenious musical items on the market today.  It is simple, you plug it in to your pedal and get the reading on your battery, that easy.  You can also check batteries as well by placing the positive end of your AA/AAA battery to the special end on the tester and placing the probe on the negative end.  The BATT-O-METER has you covered.  If you are tired of the missed opportunities with your pedals then the BATT-O-METER has become your best friend.

Dean Guitars - Dave Mustaine VMNT Series Rust In Peace

Picture
Have you heard the new Megadeth record, Endgame or witnessed a recent Megadeth show?  If so then you know the power of the Dean Guitar series that is known as VMNT!  Dave Mustaine partenerd with Dean a few years ago to create the ultimate metal guitar line and he has achieved that with many models under the VMNT series.  The model we want to spotlight is the new monster in the den known as the Rust In Peace line.  The paint adorning the sickly looking V is the Rust In Peace album artwork and the guitar sound is just as menacing as the album art it represents!  The features are a must for the metal shredder, Dean left nothing out.  A stunning mahogany body to sustain that sound and an ebony fret board and custom Dave Mustaine custom pearl inlays for superior shredding.   The pickups are stunning, Dave Mustaine Duncan Live Wire Pickups to be exact, adorn this guitar and that is the beginning of the mean sound that Dave produces.  A Tune-O-Matic bridge and 6 mini Grover In-Line tuners keep his strings perfectly in tune no matter the abuse that Dave or you provide.  In all, this series has been the ultimate series in Deans line as far as sound is concerned and this Rust In Peace line is the icing on the cake.

The GruvGear V-Cart Solo has perfected the art of transporting amps and cabinets in a safe manor for you and your gear.  There are carts to transport gear but they are not made to conform to your gear, those carts are usually something that resembles a shuttle cart to take your clothes to a room in a hotel.  V-Cart Solo can change shapes four different ways to conform to your particular needs, so you have an all in one.  One of the best things is that it is easy on you as you transport your gear.  There is zero struggle on your part as you make it to the stage.  You can traverse ramps, bumps and anything else that gets in your way and you can have peace of mind that your gear is safe.    The best way to see and feel for yourself is to check it out.  Are you ready to get with the times and finally have peace of mind and style as well as you move your gear? ESP - OKKULTIST

Picture
Darkness calls when you strap on ESP’s most sinister output in the form of OKKULTIST.  Silenoz has evoked evil images in his guitar playing for Dimmu Borgir and he has translated it to his signature series for ESP.  The make up for the guitar is nothing short of amazing with its design and sound.  First off is the neck through body for superior feel with a mahogany body for stunning sound and looks.  In that stunning looking Mahogany body are two Seymor Duncan Metal AHB-2 (B) /AHB-1(N) p.u. for that nasty metal sound that Dimmu depends on.  If you are a metal fiend that rips it up on guitar than you must check out the OKKULTIST!
