Rolling Stones - Stones in Exile DVDEagle Rock
by Jeffrey Easton Exile On Main Street has been said to be one of the greatest rock albums to grace the 70’s and to whoever coined that you are about right. The Rolling Stones have dominated rock airwaves one way or another for over 40 years now and that is due in part to making timeless records. A Stones release was an event, it demanded billboards, magazine covers, countless spins of the whole record, not just the single, when the record dropped. So here you had Exile On Main Street which took a long and twisted turn to get to completion, a journey that was well documented. Stones In Exile, the DVD, chronicles the journey that started with the band moving to France, starting on the album, dragging it out and ending up in Los Angeles to finish this masterstroke. The stories that are told, the interviews that reveal so much and the timeless pictures are here in a glorified form. Original video that was constantly shot, the plethora of photographs that were taken and diligently put away for future use make this a multidimensional feast for the eyes. Along with the tramping through the past, you have new interviews with the members, both current and former, taking on the memory of such an undertaking and making it new again. If you are the diehard Stones fan or just discovering them, this DVD is a MUST HAVE! BUY IT!!! http://www.rollingstones.com/ |
Judas Priest - British Steel 30th Anniversary DVD/CDColumbia
By Jeffrey Easton British Steel kicked off the 80’s with a solid metallic stamp to shape the way the 80’s would be musically and it is still an inspiring record to this day. So here we are 30 years into its release and the songs are still fan favorites and concert staples. Can you imagine seeing a Priest show without hearing Breaking the Law, Living After Midnight or Metal Gods? In its remastered form it is as sonically stunning as ever and with the bonus tracks of Red White And Blue and Grinder live it is complete. With this three disc set you have included a great live disc with the full British Steel record being performed as well as standards like The Ripper, Victim Of Changes and Freewheel Burning amongst others. This is THE Priest show to have attended period. The third disc is a DVD of the show and it is visually amazing. The set was stunning and the film itself was flawless. This anniversary edition of British Steel is what the consummate metal head needs and it shows the younger generation that the 80’s weren’t all hairspray and pop riffs. http://judaspriest.com/ BUY BRITISH STEEL! |
Kansas - There's No Place Like Home DVDStarCity
By Jeffrey Easton Kansas, what can you possibly say about them that has not been said? They are the progressive band to which you measure others by and their longevity is without question. This DVD, There’s Know Place Like Home, celebrates their 35th Anniversary in the business of rock and it preserves perfectly their spirit and ability to put on a show that bests bands younger than them. This was shot in their hometown of Topeka, KS where it all began so this was indeed a special moment in time for Kansas and you can tell by the reaction of the crowd that the band was on all cylinders. The show opened with Howling At The Moon and another incredible Kansas event was at hand. Point Of Know Return, Song For America, Nobody’s Home; it was all perfection. Steve Walsh’s vocals still sound the same, the age he is is not reflected in his singing. Richard Williams’ is pure finesse on the guitar, his lines throughout the music are timeless and the fact that countless prog bands have come after to take from what he has done shows you that what he is doing is immeasurable. Of course Carry On Wayward Son and Dust In The Wind are here as well as Fight Fire With Fire but I was hoping they would pull Play The Game Tonight out for this but what they did give us is phenomenal. There were a few surprises along the way with them bringing up Steve Morse as well as Kerry Livgren to the stage to play. The imagery is more than worth noting if you have an HDTV as the footage is beyond stunning. The film along with the light show shows Kansas in another state if you will. This to me is the classic rock event of the year so far on DVD and you should make it yours as well. I will continue to enjoy this for years to come, period. www.kansasband.com BUY IT!! |
Gary Moore - The Definitive Montreux CollectionEagle Eye
By Jeffrey Easton Gary Moore came up in the 70’s and 80’s as the consummate hard rock guitarist, spreading his six strings across many solo and Thin Lizzy records before discovering his true calling, the Blues. Monty Python - "Almost" the TruthEagle Rock
By Rob ”Bubbs” Harris Fans of comedy rejoice! The purveyors of fine sketch comedy have unleashed upon us a most glorious three disc set of rare interviews and never before seen extras. Monty Python have been entertaining every person with a soul for decades, through their hilarious British sketch show, to a string of unforgettable films. And while we have always been able to go back and pop in “Holy Grail” or “Life of Brian” any old time, we have never been offered an inside look as to how all this genius came together. The Pythons explain where some of the ideas for their wackiness came from, and it’s not always as obvious as you might think. Gaining strength through adversity is something that the members of MP do better than anyone else. At a time when folks had little to joke about, these guys saw a way to bury the sorrow underneath a mountain of laughter. Six plus hours worth of wildly entertaining footage awaits in this set, and anybody claiming to be a Monty Python fan would do well by grabbing up a copy for themselves. Not only is this a must have for your collection, but it comes at a rather tasty price, so it makes the decision that much easier. If laughter is the best medicine, watch this twice and call me in the morning. |
Monty Python - "Almost" the TruthBy Jeffrey Easton
Forty years have gone by since Monty Python’s brand of absurd and off the wall humor changed everything for good and nothing has changed. The Python’s did things that the world had never seen before but considering the climate they were in, war, violence etc, we were ready for it. They took everything that Britain stood for, Royalty, the military, Government, prestige, and put their foot through it. Nothing was sacred at all in their eyes and everything was open to their scourge. Since Python debuted, we have seen a trove of movies and shows trying to replicate what they did but never quite grasping the brass ring that MP nailed to the wall in a very high place that no one could reach. So with the forty year anniversary we have the box sets of all box sets, a 3 DVD set entitled “Almost” The Truth, The Lawyers Cut. This DVD set is 7 hours and 43 minutes (cannot be just 7 hours with the Pythons) of recollections, interviews, rare footage and the favorite skits handcrafted just for you. The interviews are raw at times, in depth and they do not hold back. They touch on Graham’s drinking and smoking (that led to his death), the infighting, all of the negativity but all of that led to some of the most amazing comedy ever. The detailed look at the movies is worth the price of admission here as the movies make it for me. Nothing is funnier movie-wise than Life of Brian and the Holy Grail, period. If you have never seen these movies, you should run right out and buy them… Now… You have extra clips of interviews, how each Python looks at each other, a great interview with Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson, and how he applied Monty Python to an incident at a brothel in Germany. If you are a fan of Python as I am, this is a must watch as it will take you deeper into the vaults of their minds and a greater understanding is garnered. If you are a new fan, buy this DVD but go watch the shows and movies first then watch this. I am pleased that this has finally been released as a celebration for something completely different.
