Dio – Live In London/Hammersmith Apollo 1993 – Eagle Vision

By Jeffrey Easton

DIO to me was timeless, his music was magic but it was the scene that was changing, it was the 90’s and DIO embraced it.  Following the success of Lock Up The Wolves, Dio rearranged his band again recruiting the young axe slinger Tracy G and metal stalwart Jeff Pilson of Dokken fame and created the masterpiece Strange Highways.  So with this masterstroke in his clutches, he went back out for a full blown world tour that brought him to the legendary Apollo and the stunning performance that is this DVD.  DIO and his band were in full bore attack mode as they lit up Strange Highways with Jesus Mary & The Holy Ghost, Evilution, Pain, Here’s To You as well as the title track.  This was the fans first look at new guitar player Tracy G and his heavy handed riffs and he slayed the crowd.  Tracy and Ronnie played off each other as they brought Strange Highways to life and to no end did not forget the old material. Rainbow In The Dark, We Rock as well as Stand Up And Shout, The Mob Rules and Last in Line were given new life with Tracy’s lead weight riffs and Jeff’s propulsive attack.  The only drawback to this DVD was DIO did not perform the sinister material from the recently released Dehumanizer otherwise this is a perfect DIO SET.
