Judas Priest – Screaming For Vengeance/30th Anniversary Edition – Columbia

By Jeffrey Easton

1982/83 were great years for Judas priest.  Not only did Priest vault themselves into the stratosphere with the release of the Screaming For Vengeance but they played the massively successful US festival in Southern California, putting them in front of over 600,000 screaming fans that wanted to love Priest and that they did.  So here we are 30 years later and that record still resonates to this day and heavily influences metals’ sound and dominates their touring set list.  Can you imagine a Priest show without The Hellion, Electric Eye, title track or You’ve Got Another Thing Coming? To me, Screaming is the consummate Priest record and this amazing reissue comes with sickening live tracks like Devils Child and Riding On The Wind as well as the disturbingly beautiful bonus track Prisoner Of Your Eyes.  The DVD is THE show of their young career, the 1983 US Festival.  They were sharing the stage with the who’s who of metal in 1983 and even though they played during the day they still owned that stage with their dark look and packed set list.  Not only did they hit Screaming hard, they threw in Metal Gods, Victim Of Changes, Living After Midnight as well as Hell Bent For Leather.  This was priest rising to the top and there was just no stopping them.  This is the first time this show has been officially released and only the second act (triumph being the first) to release their set from this historic show.  Want a flashback or a trip through time for the younger Priest set, this is the place to go.
